Gotta admit, as bored as I am with the dream arc & impatient for it to be over with, I’m still frustrated with how it’s been handled compared to the novel. Sang Jiu telling Ming Ye to fuck off when he explains himself is a badass scene, but it works way better in the novel because he was legit an absolute arsehole to her.
He treats her like shit & everyone in the realm bullies her because they’re Ming Ye/Tian Huan shippers who know they won’t be called out on it. He only starts to realise he has feelings for her while he’s injured, & even then he pushes them away when Tian Huan shows up & lies to him.
And when he finally realises that he fucked up & apologises, even though he genuinely means it, it’s too little, too late, & she tells him she doesn’t love him anymore because of fucking course she doesn’t after all that. And I love that we get something saying that actually no, sometimes love does not conquer all. I know, I know, I’m saying that while watching a romantic xianxia, but still. It’s nice to add a lil pessimism sometimes, just for spice. Especially because the whole point of this arc is basically ‘life sucks & then you die’ & he’s left stewing in his own resentment for millennia while holding onto Sang Jiu’s memory because he knows he fucked up & wasn’t able to fix his own mistakes & he never ever will.
Like as much as I’ve liked going BOO! HISS! @ Tian Huan, the fact that she is the sole villain here while Ming Ye is just an innocent dumbass with communication issues is frustrating.
The gods’ costumes have been amazing though. A+ job there, costume department.
