You mean this isn’t normal? The whole thing where everyone talks about visualisation & seeing things in their minds eye isn’t just some metaphor???? You’re actually meant to see pictures in your head???????? WHAAAAT?!
I think this is one of the reasons I focus so much on details in my writing (whether it’s details of how a character is feeling about something, or what equipment & tools they have available, or options available to them), because that’s how I see things, so I overcompensate with feelings & data because that’s a workaround I was using without realising it? (Like in my current fic, I know Kylo is wearing his TFA outfit because I’ve seen it & prefer it to his TLJ getup, & it was relevant because another character saw it & described it, but it occurs to me now I have no bloody idea how Rose is dressed because I’ve never pictured it while writing.) Maybe that’s why I write in the first place, because it’s all about getting my thoughts down on something in front of me?
The weird thing is, I have an interest in photography & cinematography & I feel I have a good sense of aesthetics? But it’s all about what is right before me in the moment, or about what feelings the images evoke when I think about them, really.
